Research Assistant or Research Associate Cosmetology Scholarship

Research Assistant salary: £26,860 - £29,850 per annum
Research Associate salary: £30,680 - £35,100 per annum
Fixed Term for up to 24 months

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for either a Research Assistant or Research Associate for the prestigious Innovative Medicines Initiative funded project on the Unbiased Biomarkers for predicting respiratory disease outcomes project (UBIOPRED). Central to this project is the creation of a Translational Medicine Knowledge Management Repository that curates and manages all of the project data and study findings and makes it available to all members of the project. Within this project the applicant will be responsible for the Knowledge Management Platform including developing methodologies, ontologies and systems for managing the Clinical, Biological and other Research data collected by the project.

To apply for this position, you will need to have a strong computing or engineering background. You should have proven knowledge and track record in one or more of the following areas: Bioinformatics and biological data management, Clinical Data Management, Semantic Web & RDF and Wiki technology. Additionally you will be required to demonstrate software development skills in one of more of the following platforms J2EE, AJAX and Oracle.

Research Assistant applicants will have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e., Computing or Engineering.

Research Associate applicants will have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e. Computing or Engineering.

You must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas. All applicants must be fluent in English.
